Aubrey Plaza “jumped” on Guy Ritchie to be cast in “Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre”.
The 37-year-old actress is best known for her comedy work but she’s ‘always dreamed’ of being in live-action and admitted she starred as CIA agent Sarah Fidel in a way she has never done before.
She told Total Film magazine: “I always wanted to be in an action movie.
“I grew up very athletic. I have always played sports. It’s not something I ever thought would happen. But it’s definitely something I’ve always dreamed of.
Aubrey and Guy had a first virtual meeting and then she stepped up her campaign to be cast.
She said, “I heard through the vine that he might be meeting some other people. I just jumped. I jumped on him and said, ‘Choose me, I’m the man for the job. I will be funny. I’m going to kick people’s ass. All that you want.’
“I really went for it, which I don’t normally do, but I felt compelled to do it. And he responded to my audacity.
The actress stars alongside Jason Statham in the film and made it her “mission” to crack him up during filming.
She said: “I loved training with him every day. He’s surprisingly much dumber when the cameras aren’t rolling.
“So it was very funny to see him making jokes and making fun of me.
“But the minute the cameras roll, he’s back to his serious action movie star way.
“It became kind of a sick game – I was trying to make him laugh – and I definitely succeeded sometimes.
“He made me laugh too. He’s tricky this Statham.
Although there were far more men on set than women, Aubrey insisted that it didn’t “upset” her, although she sometimes drifted away from her new “gang of brothers”.
She said: “It really felt like a boys club…
“It doesn’t really bother me. But there were times when the guys were all going to golf and I was like, ‘Excuse me, I can golf too. And me?’
“I felt like I had a group of brothers who were all fighting.
“Sometimes I walked in there and sometimes I was like, ‘I’m going to my trailer to paint my nails. “
