Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has pushed for a separate Black Adam movie

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson lobbied to split ‘Black Adam’ and ‘Shazam!’ origin stories.

The 50-year-old actor will play the title role in the upcoming DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film and has revealed that he’s partly taking responsibility for giving the villain a standalone movie.

The Rock told Vanity Fair magazine, “When the first draft of the film came to us, it was a combination of ‘Black Adam’ and ‘Shazam’: two origin stories in one movie.

The former WWE star was determined to have his anti-hero front and center in his own film and recalled how he “made a phone call” where he aired his “unpopular” opinion.

Johnson explained: “I said, ‘I have to share my thoughts here.’

“Everyone was like, ‘Hey, this script is great, let’s make this movie.’ I said, “I really think you should do ‘Shazam!’, do this movie on your own in whatever tone you want. And I think we should separate that as well.”

The Rock previously suggested that “Black Adam” would “here in a new era” for the DCEU, as hinted in trailers.

This sequence also reflects the vision of our director, who wanted to create something different; who wanted to create a movie that was But he also wanted create a movie that would start the pendulum swinging in the DC Universe.

“In addition to the hierarchy of power I’ve talked about, this pendulum swing will usher in a new era of the DC Universe. A new anti-hero era, a new tone era, and a new story era.”
