Gabrielle Union has spoken candidly about her 30-year battle with anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The Being Mary Jane actress was attacked and raped at gunpoint while working part-time in a shoe store aged 19.

On Wednesday, Gabrielle took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and hubby Dwyane Wade at the 2022 Met Gala in May, and revealed that while she looked confident and glamorous, she was actually overwhelmed with anxiety at the time.

“As a rape survivor, I struggled with PTSD for 30 years. Living with anxiety and panic attacks for all those years was never easy,” the 49-year-old explained. . “There are times when anxiety is so strong that it shrinks my life. Leaving the house or turning left at an uncontrolled traffic light can fill me with dread. Anxiety can transform my anticipation of a party or event. ‘a fun event that got me excited to witness (Met Ball) in sheer agony.’

Gabrielle then urged her fans to support those around them when they encounter similar issues.

“When we tell you all what we’re going through, please believe us the first time we mention it. No, it’s not like being nervous and everyone experiences and deals with anxiety differently. , and that’s okay. I don’t need you to try to ‘fix’ me. I’m sharing this because I hope everyone who lives with anxiety knows they’re not alone or extra. I see you, I FEEL you and there is so much love for you. Always. Love and turn on the good people.
