Halle Berry in thriller Mother Land – Film News | Film-News.co.uk

Halle Berry stars in the thriller “Mother Land.”

The 55-year-old actress has joined the cast of the Lionsgate film, which will launch international sales at the Cannes market next week.

Alexandre Aja – whose previous credits “The Hills Have Eyes” and “Piranha 3D” – is directing the film, which is expected to go into production next year.

The film will tell the story of a mother and her twin sons who have been tormented by an evil spirit for years. When one of the boys wonders if this is real, the sacred family bond is severed and they must fight for survival.

Aja will produce the film alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine for 21 rounds. Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby wrote the screenplay with Halle and Holly Jeter serving as executive producers.

Lionsgate President of Production Erin Westerman said: “We are thrilled to be working with Halle and Alex again. Halle is a force on screen – she is the perfect person to convey the psychological terror of this mother trying to protect his family.

“And who better to escalate the tension than Alex. The producers of Powerhouse 21 Laps will deliver an elevated thriller that will keep audiences on the edge of their seat.”

Halle made her directorial debut last year in the film ‘Bruised’, which she also starred in, and has revealed she “definitely” wants to step behind the camera on another film.

The Oscar-winning star said: “I’m going to get back behind the camera. I can’t tell you for sure what I’m doing, but I really want to do it again.

“And I definitely won’t be playing it this time. The staging is quite important.”
