Idris Elba had “a lot of fun” finding the voice of Knuckles – News Film |

Idris Elba had “a lot of fun” finding the voice of Knuckles for “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”.

The 49-year-old actor stars as the impetuous warrior in the animated film sequel and he had a blast figuring out the right way for his alter ego to speak.

He said, “I thought, ‘Is he American? English?’ So I loved having the chance to explore different Sonic sounds and different places my voice could go with it. It was great.”

The “Luther” star did a lot to make Knuckles “likeable.”

He said, “I loved creating his personality.

“Knuckles is such a mystery. We know a little more about him and what he looks like; he has big fists so it’s Knuckles!

“But the team wanted me to help create the character of Knuckles. He’s a good guy with a very stern voice.

“It was fun trying to make him likeable and great.”

Idris found a lot to admire in his character.

He said: “Knuckles doesn’t understand lying or dishonour. There is no gray area with him.

“He also doesn’t understand humor or emotion.”

And he even saw similarities with himself.

He told Cocoa Boy magazine, “I’m not really good at small talk and Knuckles either.”

It was recently confirmed that a third film in the franchise is on the way, while Idris’ Knuckles is getting a spin-off series.

Paramount announced, “#SonicMovie3 is officially in development from @ParamountPics and @SEGA! Additionally, next year a new #Knuckles original series starring @IdrisElba will be coming to #ParamountPlus. #SonicMovie2 will hit theaters on April 8th. (sic)”

In light of Jim Carrey, who plays Dr. Ivo Robotnik, recently announcing that he plans to retire, “Sonic 2” producers Toby Ascher and Neal H Moritz have ruled out recasting the character for the third film.

Toby said: “Jim Carrey is still a member of the Sonic family and he will always have a place in those movies and TV shows as long as he loves being there.

“We love Jim and he’s so special, and what he’s doing with Robotnik is so amazing. We’d love him as long as he’d love to be here with us.”
