Jemima Kirke’s daughter broke down in tears when she surprised her with a video call from Taylor Swift.
The Girls actress currently stars alongside Joe Alwyn, who is in a relationship with the Shake It Off star, in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel Conversations with Friends.
On a night without filming, Jemima had drinks with Taylor and spontaneously decided to call her 11-year-old daughter Rafella.
“I was having a drink with Taylor and I told her my daughter was a fan and she said, ‘Why don’t we call her?’ I said, “I don’t know if we can cold call my daughter. She could die!” Jemima told Telegraph Magazine. “But we did and she started sobbing. I felt bad and she texted me a few minutes later saying, ‘Can we try again?’ She was crying and laughing and covering her face. She didn’t know what to do.”
The 37-year-old was first approached to play Melissa, a writer and wife of Joe’s acting character Nick, when she was filming Sex Education in Wales and did not immediately respond to the email because she hated being away from Rafella and her nine-year-old son, Memphis.
“I was exhausted and hated being away from my kids,” she explained. “I wasn’t in the mood to work anymore so I kept ignoring the email. Eventually I looked at it and said, ‘I’ll do a Zoom audition once I get it. will have finished filming. “”
She eventually landed the role and filmed the series in Ireland between April and October last year.
Conversations with Friends is streaming now.
