Neve Campbell was open with her son Raynor about his adoption “from the start.”
During a recent interview for The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Scream star discussed adopting her now three-year-old son with partner JJ Feild.
Campbell told hitmaker Since U Been Gone that it is advisable to be honest with children about their adoption status from an early age.
“I’ve read a lot about it. I think back to when we used to think, ‘Don’t tell them and throw it at them when they’re 21 so their whole reality crumbles “, which is so logical,” said the 48-year-old sighed.
However, the actress explained that during the adoption process, the recommendation given to her was to tell the children as soon as possible to normalize the conversation.
“Really, the advice I got was before they even understood the language, talked about their birth mother, talked about their story,” she continued. “Tell them who they are.”
Campbell revealed that she asked her son’s birth mother for a photo of herself and a letter to give him, so he would know more about her.
“She actually made a whole scrapbook for him with pictures of her and things about her life and things she loves,” she smiles.
Campbell and Feild are also parents to nine-year-old son Caspian.
