CoMix Wave Films, History Inc.and TOHO announced on Tuesday that RADWIMPS will score susume (Suzume no Tojimari or literally, the locking doors of Suzume), Makoto Shinkaiis the first new movie in three years. RADWIMPS and Shinkai have previously collaborated on Shinkai’s your name. and grow old with you animated movies. Seattle-based Hollywood film composer, Kazuma Jinnouchi (Ghost in the shell: SAC_2045, RWBY: Ice Queendom) will tag the movie alongside RADWIMPS. The companies also revealed that the TikTok performer Toaka performs the theme song “Suzume”, which a previous trailer previewed.

Shinkai said that three important points about the film are that it is a road movie through Japan, a story about “closing doors” rather than opening them, and a reason to visit the cinema. . He explained that closing doors can refer to removing details or finishing something.
Actress Nanoka Hara voices heroine Suzume Iwato in the film. Hara competed for the role with over 1,700 other applicants in auditions, and this is his first anime voice role.
SixTONES member of an idol group Hokuto Matsumura also makes his voice-acting debut in the film as the character of Sōta Munakata, a young man who embarks on a journey with Suzume as a “master of door-closing”. Shinkai personally reviewed Matsumura’s audition as a youngster “who ends up turning into a chair.” Shinkai cited the eloquent “inner richness” of Matsumura’s voice for choosing the singer for the role.
The film will be released in Japan on November 11. The film will have IMAX screenings that will open simultaneously with regular screenings. Shinkai also wrote a novelization of the film which shipped on August 24.
Crunchyroll, Sony Pictures Entertainmentand Gang of thugs International will release the film worldwide except in Asia in early 2023. Crunchyroll will handle North American distribution, while Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle distribution in Latin America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Africa and parts of Europe. Crunchyroll, Sony Pictures Entertainmentand Gang of thugs International will release the film in French-speaking and German-speaking Europe.
Shinkai (your name., grow old with you) directs the film and writes the screenplay. He is also credited with the original story. Masayoshi Tanaka (your name., grow old with you) designs the characters. Kenichi Tsuchiya (your name., garden of words) is the animation director. Takumi Tanji (The children who hunt the lost voices) is the artistic director. CoMix Wave Films and History Inc. produce the movie. TOHO distribute the film.
