TV & Film News – JOIN TV FAST Network Set for January Launch


JOIN TV (Just One Incredible Network) is set to launch on January 1, 2023. Toronto-headquartered FAST Channel and AVOD Network is founded by warren campbell and Gordon Weiske. The network says it has already secured thousands of hours of programming for its array of channels which includes a dedicated channel Fashion Channel, Travel Channel, Music Channel, Documentary Channel, Entertainment Channel, Crypto News Channel, World Sports Channel, Indigenous Peoples Channel, LGBTQ2S+ Channel and a top Trendy chain showcasing the best shows, movies and programs from around the world. It also plans to start producing its own programming for additional channels that will launch in the months following that of the official JOIN TV network.

The Canadian Stunt Hall of Fame (CANSHOF) has named its first set of inductees. They understand John (Frenchie) Berger, Céline Fournier, Charles Fournier, Marcel Fournier, Tom Glass, Alex Green, Robert (Bobby) Hannah, Dwayne McLean, David Rigby, Jacob Rupp, John Scott, Jérôme Thibergien, Betty Thomas, John Thomas, John Wardlowand Keith Warlow. CANSHOF officially pays tribute to the innovative work and dedication of Canada’s professional stuntmen. In addition to inductees, community members will be posthumously honored in the Hall of Fame ‘In memory’ section. The Canadian Stunt Hall of Fame Committee, which includes Rick Skene, Colin Decker, Mike Scherer, Steve ‘Shack’ Shackleton, Ana Shepherd, Lori Stewart and Amy Szokealso established a website serving as an online historical archive celebrating the body of work of the inductees.

Desire for original series Canada’s Drag Race: Canada Against the World will premiere on November 18. After three successful seasons of Canada’s Drag Race, the new six-part series will see nine world-renowned dragsters, including four former Drag Race Canada competitors, go head-to-head. With Canada acting as host country, resident judges of Canada’s Drag Races Brooke Lynn Hytes, Brad Goresky, and Traci Melchor bring their expertise as judges, joined by guest judges and special guests who will be announced throughout the season.

Corus studios adds a new series of paranormal investigations Reprise (8×60) to its catalog for international distribution. New Corus studios the original series is led by a paranormal investigator Moe Sargipsychic medium Leitreanna Brown and researcher Marika Simon, as they travel across North America in search of the most haunted objects and owners who need their help. The series will air on Historic Channel and joins the new season of beat the crime as part of the paranormal and crime offerings available on MIPCOM. Looking ahead to MIPCOM, the new deals include several international sales for the highly anticipated Pamela’s Garden of Eden (8×60), featuring Pamela Andersonbefore its Canadian premiere, November 3 HGTV Canada. In addition to the previously announced first pre-sale from Pamela’s Garden of Eden to Hulu in the United States, sales are also confirmed foxtel in Australia, GROUP M6 (Paris Première and 6ter channels) in France, Italy Sky Italia, Talpa TV in the Netherlands, in Portugal SCIPoland ZoomTVand tallit in Israel.

Molly Parker, Brian J. Smith, Stephen McHattie, Finlay Wojtak-Hissongand Kevin Durand direct the cast of Essex County (5×60). Based on by Jeff Lemire graphic novel, Essex County is a limited series that follows the intertwined lives of two families in a rural community. ITV studios and Media Musketeers Studios will launch the show internationally at MIPCOM. The limited series will premiere in Canada on Radio Canada and Gem of Radio-Canada in the winter of 2023.

Blackfoot Nation Films latest project Ground tales, from the writer/director Trevor Solway, went to the camera in Siksika, AB. The horror-comedy anthology series, which airs on APTN Lumi, brings traditional tales and popular urban legends of the Blackfoot to the screen. The film features a cast of Indigenous talent, including Eugene Brave Rock (Dark Winds, Wonder Woman), Ghost Guardian Shane (Parallel minds), Shayla Stonechild (Mermaid), Michelle Muguet (Prey), Joel Oulette (Trickster), Nathan Alexis (Trickster), Cody Lightning (Echo, four leaves in the wind) and presenting Charles DuckChief. The first season is set in the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy in southern Alberta. Subsequent seasons will travel to other Indigenous communities around the world.

Lopii Productions announced their sixth original series, The best day of my life with my best friend! Produced in partnership with CBC Kids, Bestest Day Ever is a 20 x 7 minute live-action series set to launch in 2023, aimed at preschoolers and celebrating the cherished relationships children have with their pets. Lopii Productions is launching a casting call for children, siblings and families (ages 4-12) with deserving pets to apply to be part of the show which will be filmed in January/February 2023. Lopii Productions was one of 19 recipients of Canada Media Fund for Racialized Communities Pilot Program (PPRC), a new fund designed to support the growth of English- and French-language audiovisual production by underrepresented creators.

great chain starts publishing its annual report Heart & House Christmas holiday film programming event on November 4. Starting November 18, a new festive title will air every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night until December 23. This season’s offering includes 23 Canadian feature films, including five Super Channel Heart & Home Original productions (in Canadian premiere), including Christmas on Mistletoe Lake of Chesler Perlmutter; Cook until the end of Vortex Media; sappy holiday of rebel empire; Christmas in the book of chaos; and Faith Heist: a Christmas caper, the continuation of the Canadian Screen Awards-winner Faith Heist, of No equal entertainment. Also world premiering are two pre-licensed titles from Brain Power Studios produced in association with Super Channel, Christmas Country Roads and Christmas at Wolf Creek. The list also includes 17 titles acquired from All Canadian Ent., 15 of them are made in Canada titles. All holiday movies will be shown commercial-free and will be available on Great channel on demand.

The 118th Original Santa Claus Parade airs Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. ET/PT exclusively on TVC, CTV.caand the TVC app. The largest children’s parade in North America is back November 20. Bell Media promises additional broadcast details at a later date.
